Caring for your African Pygmy Hedgehog

African Pygmy Hedgehogs are said to typically live between 3-5 years, though some have lived to almost double this age. They are not highly demanding pets, although the owner must have a wide knowledge on the creatures. African Pygmy Hedgehogs cannot survive an outdoor climate, and therefore must ideally be kept inside, or outside provided sufficient heat-source is provided. Their homes must be approximately 72 F (18-26 C) constant, if this is not provided then your hedgehog may attempt to go into hibernation which can be fatal. Information on what to do should this happen is below.

We also have information on housing and interior, hibernation, feeding, bonding and behaviour and grooming.
