Shropshire Hedgehogs

Grooming

Hedgehogs to tend to get a little scruffy now and then, and once a month or so you should bathe your hedgehog with a very mild shampoo designed for small animals or puppies. Never use tea-tree on your hedgehog as it is toxic for them. Use a soft toothbrush to get in between your hedgehogs quills and ensure you rise and dry him or her very well. You can use a towel or a hairdryer on the lowest setting to dry your hedgehog.

You will also have to trim your hedgehog's nails as necessary, especially the back feet. Use a normal pair of nail-clippers or ones designed for small animals and cut just the white nail. Avoid the quick (pink in colour). Cutting this will lead it to bleed profusely. If you feel unconfident with doing this, get an experienced friend or your vet to aid you.
